NEW! Introduction to Digital Scrapbooking

Ages: 16+
Are you overwhelmed by your pictures? This four-week course introduces students to digital scrapbooking using Heritage Makers. During each class, students will learn techniques, strategies, and skills; then have time to work on their personal digital scrapbooking. Students may create digital books or individual digital scrap pages and pay for those products upon completion. Students will be able to continue working on digital scrapbooking at home when class is finished. The class will be offered online via Zoom with face-to-face interaction through video camera, though video camera is not required to participate. A Zoom link to join the class will be emailed a few days before the class begins. Students need a computer with Adobe Flash installed in order to use the Heritage Makers program. (Heritage Makers software is free to use.)

Professional Workshop With Tadashi

Ages: 15+ years
Advanced students will learn the meaning of being an artist through the inspirational and motivational teaching techniques of Tadashi Hayakawa. In this informal and self-motivated open studio, students will break away from formal art instruction and develop critical art appreciation while creating enthusiasm and energy for art expression. Students are encouraged to bring a current work in progress and must supply their own canvas or drawing/painting pads, with all materials including paint, brushes, pallets, etc. Donations made to Tadashi Hayakawa are encouraged. Hands-On Introduction to DSLR Photography

Ages: 16+
This course is designed to help you understand and get more out of your Digital SLR or “super-zoom” camera. Full of tips, tricks, and live demonstrations, this class will help you understand Aperture, ISO, Shutter-Speed, RAW versus JPEG, and how to use them to your advantage using simple terminology. Discover easy methods for image editing, and take better pictures by using composition techniques and developing your artistic eye. Students should bring their camera and camera manual to class.

Beginning Fluid Acrylic Pour Paintings *New!

Ages: 13+
Paint pouring is a technique using acrylic paint and a flow medium to create unique abstract effects on canvas, wood, tile, old records and more. This class will give you the skills to design and paint beautiful pieces of art that will amaze your family and friends! In four weeks you will leave with a variety of paintings and the confidence to create these beauties at home. Warning: is it extremely addictive and fun for the whole family! Instructor will provide most supplies (for the first class) but students will need to purchase the painting surfaces of their choosing for the following class sessions (canvas, tiles, etc.).

Beginning Mixed Media – Sailing Ships

Ages: 13+
This three-hour workshop will provide students with the skills and techniques to create a beautiful mixed media sailing ship – ready to be framed! Composition, design, color theory, mono printing, torn paper and collage techniques will be covered – come join me for this fun, relaxing and creative workshop that is designed for the beginning art student!

Beginning Fused Glass Bowls/Plates/Platters

Ages: 13+
This 2.5-hour workshop will provide students with the skills and techniques need to create a fused glass bowl, plate, or platter. Students will learn how to cut and layer glass which will then be kiln fired in my home studio. They will need to return to PACE Center to pick up their artwork in about one week. All supplies and safety equipment will be provided but students are asked to wear close toed shoes and long pants. A $20 supply fee due to Kay Gross on first day of class.

Exploring Oil and Cold Wax

Explore the exciting world of creating with oil and cold wax. Cold wax is uniquely different from encaustic as it proves incredible depth and texture with less set up. Enjoy demos and lots of individual attention. Learn how to turn accidents into unexpected joys. Aspects of abstract composition and what makes a piece “work” will be shared. Exploring Alcohol Inks

Explore flowing vivid colors as you play with alcohol inks and create something beautiful. Students will be guided through demos and given lots of individual attention. Tips on how to work with the inks on a tile or non-porous surface to direct the design will be shared. An overview of the materials and how to prepare the surface will also be provided. Painting Aspen with a Palette Knife 

Ages: 13+
Learn how to use a palette knife to paint beautiful aspen landscapes. This workshop is fun and exciting as you practice palette knife painting techniques with acrylics. Students will be guided step-by-step in painting a background of skies, fields or mountains. Then, add aspens for an amazing acrylic landscape.
