Summer 2020 Theater Camps

Parker Arts is keeping camp registration open by lowering camp maximums to 9 or 12 depending on what is required by the contracted camp provider. Families are encouraged to join a wait list free of charge in the event we may be permitted to have more participants in a classroom. Any camp that already had over 9 enrollments will be closed until we have more guidance, but please make sure to join the waitlist.

*NEW* Straight Out of Hollywood Film/Commercial Acting for Kids

Ages: 7-12
This camp will teach beginning film acting skills and professional techniques in preparation for commercial and film acting, and auditions. Students will learn to play their role convincingly and connect with audiences, while learning to physically convey the emotions, motivations, and intentions of a character through physical movement and speech. Students should have a passion for performing and entertaining. Each child that attends the camp will receive a video reel of their skills and commercial headshots.

KidStage: Play-A-Day

Ages: 4-7
Each day kids will have fun playing theater games, learning about a different play, and performing short scenes. This is a great way for younger students to explore the world of theater and build basic theater skills while having fun! (Monday: Tangled / Tuesday: Lion King / Wednesday: Beauty & the Beast / Thursday: Hercules) Students will show off what they learned in a short showcase during the last 30 minutes of camp on Friday.

KidStage Stars: Beauty and the Beast

Ages: 8-12
Would you be able to find beauty....in a beast? Join Belle, a simple country girl, and a colorful cast of characters as she embarks on the biggest adventure of her life. Finding herself alone in a dark and scary castle, Belle meets the Beast, an intimidating monster who’s not exactly polite. Follow their journey to friendship as Belle realizes that what truly matters is the beauty you possess inside. This adaptation has fantastic roles for boys and girls! The performance will be on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Improv Frenzy

Ages: 8-18
Parker Theatre Academy’s summer improv camp is a fun, fast-paced, and exciting jump into the world of improv! Students will learn the basics of improv, including "Yes, and…" trusting your instincts, teamwork, "group mind," and the importance of listening. Students will learn the tools to play strong characters and develop good scene work, all through the power of play! Students will learn classic improv games, as well as exercises that build confidence in both performing arts and life. This camp is a great fit for all experience levels. Students will perform for friends and family the last hour on Friday.

Summer Teen Musical Theater Intensive

Ages: 12-18
Looking for a summer class for teens that are serious about performing arts? This is it! Work with the area’s leading professionals in this highly challenging and fun summer intensive for teens. Students will learn choreography, sing harmonies, and learn songs and scenes from their favorite musicals, all while furthering their musical theater craft. Students should come dressed to move (dance shoes recommended). The camp will end in a showcase for family and friends on Friday.

Parker on Broadway

Ages: 8-14
Come join the musical theater professionals at Inspire Theater Company and experience musical theater just like Broadway! Students will build skills in singing and acting while exploring songs, choreography, and scenes from Broadway musicals. Students will learn how to create characters while singing and moving with confidence! Students should come dressed to move (dance shoes recommended). The camp will end in a showcase for family and friends on Friday.

Bumps, Cuts & Bruises:  A course in wound makeup and stage combat   

Ages: 13-18
Parker Theatre Academy presents a crash course in how to apply wound makeup and how to act out delivering those wounds through stage combat. Beginning students will learn basic application and advanced students will be taught the next level of make-up application. The students will incorporate their makeup into the fight choreography. The last class family and friends will be invited to see the finished make-up products and choreography. Students are asked to purchase a Bruises, Bumps, Blisters and Burns make-up kit through PTA that they will take home. Additional $35 supply fee for the make-up kit is payable to the camp provider on the first day of camp.

*NEW* The Opera Experience

Ages: 8-12
Join Opera Colorado for an immersive experience where students collaborate with one another to create a fully formed theatrical production in just one week! Of all of the performing arts, opera is the most collaborative. Students will work with industry professionals such as Opera Singers, Composers, and Stage Directors to create, produce and perform their own opera. All talents are welcome and needed, and no background in singing is necessary to have an amazing experience crafting a one-of-a-kind production. Using a literary source as a starting point, students will work to write a libretto, create a score, produce and perform their original creation in front of an audience. The Opera Experience speaks to 21st century learning skills in a way that will leave young artists feeling fulfilled and accomplished. On Friday camp will be from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ending with the performance at 5:00 p.m.

KidStage Stars: Wonka

Ages: 8-12
Mr. Willy Wonka is the greatest chocolate maker the world has ever seen! He has invited five kids to come and tour his factory! Among them is the gluttonous Augustus Gloop, the gum chewing Violet Beauregard, the severely nasty Veruca Salt, and a non-stop TV watching boy named Mike Teavee. The final child to find a golden ticket and win a tour of the factory is the kind-hearted Charlie Bucket! Come along on this hilarious journey complete with Oompa Loompas, Giant Squirrels, and lots of chocolate factory technology. The performance will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

Dylan’s Down With The Arts Theater Camp

Ages: 8+
Spend a week singing, dancing, and creating skits with friends of all ages! Open to individuals with special needs and typical peers. All week leads up to our big performance on Friday at 6:00 p.m. on the PACE Center main stage!

*NEW* Technical Theater Boot Camp

Ages: 13-17
Led by theater professionals with years of practical experience, this boot camp will be an exploration of technical theater covering major disciplines in theatrical productions. Each day will cover a separate discipline and will build the students understanding of history and current technology and design practices, and provide practical hands-on experience using the technology in the PACE Center’s Mainstage Theater. The camp will culminate with students assisting professional staff in running technical equipment for the Dylan’s Down with the Arts Summer Theater Camp performance on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Monday–Lighting, Tuesday–Audio, Wednesday–Staging, Thursday–Stage Management, Friday–Run rehearsal and show.
